Keeping the fallen Angels for Judgment
And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;
(Jude 6)
And the angels
- God created angels (Colossians 1:16)
- They are God’s servants (Psalm 91:11)
- They are ministering spirits (Heb.1:14)
- They are immortal (Luke 20:36)
And the angels who did not keep their proper domain…
- The angels specified
- They did not keep their proper domain (Gk- “arche” – beginning)
- They did not keep their original authority
- What did they do instead?
- They left their own abode
- They forsook their own habitation
- Authority and abode
- They are related
- To not keep one’s authority is the same as leaving his/her abode (status)!
He has reserved in everlasting chains …
- He is none other than the Lord God
- How has He responded to the angels mentioned above?
- He has reserved (Gk- Perfect Active Indicative )
- The angels were kept
- They are still kept
- He has bound them in everlasting chains under darkness
- He has reserved (Gk- Perfect Active Indicative )
For the judgment of the great day
- God has kept the fallen angels for the judgment of the great day
- The angels that had fallen have been bound for the judgement to come
Reflections
- God judges all who sin
- God destroyed the Israelites who did not continue to believe in Him (5)
- God has chained the angels who did not continue to abide in their original status (6)
